Tartan, now there’s a patterned fabric that never goes out of fashion. You can find tartan nearly everywhere, including that one piece of tartan that travelled into space in 1969 with astronaut Alan Bean! Tartan sure does get around.
I absolutely did some research into tartan because while I know about Black Watch tartan, Campbell and MacDonald tartan I didn’t know much about the others. To my utter astonishment I found this little gem from that glorious place, Wikipedia: “Depending upon how "different tartan" is defined, it has been estimated that there are about 3,500 to 7,000 different tartans, with around 150 new designs being created every year. With four ways of presenting the hues in the tartan—"modern", "ancient", "weathered", and "muted" colours—there are thus about 14,000 recognised tartan variations from which to choose. The 7,000 figure above includes many of these variations counted as though they were different tartans.”
Of course this could only mean one thing: we need a Second Life tartan! Oh now that would be glorious. However, lacking an official tartan of Second Life, we do have this wonderful option from Kieran Stephens Designs.
