Why do we feel the need to tear things, particularly others, down? Does it really stem from something as simple as jealousy? Does it really impact us if someone else is different?
I’m speaking in generalities because there are so many issues, thoughts and worries swirling around the void inside my head. Think of this as something akin to a stream of consciousness, only more questionable than answerable.
Do we brush off constructive critique in favour of responding with defensive retorts and underhanded nastiness? What is the point of negatively commenting on or making fun of someone else’s appearance, race or gender identity? Is it really that threatening to have someone be unapologetically themselves in their own body?
To be honest, I doubt I will ever find any of the answers to my questions. I don’t mean answers like “racism” or “socioeconomic factors” and the like. I’m talking deep in the psyche of human consciousness answers.
Why do we have to be right? Where did this innate desire to be right come from? And why on Earth is it still so important when we’ve all learned - at least I hope we have by now - that being right doesn’t mean we’re any better/smarter/more worthy than those who are wrong.
Why do we have to have the last word? The absolute say on a situation as if we can somehow change the outcome through sheer force of will.
Love, Kirinyth
